Red, Refreshing, and Ready to Chill: The Rise of Chillable Reds

Jul 12, 2025

This summer, one trend has become crystal clear: chillable reds are having a serious moment. These wines—light in body, bright in flavor, and best served with a slight chill—are redefining what we reach for when the temps climb.

Gone are the days when reds were reserved for cozy, fireside sipping. Chillable reds like Gamay, Beaujolais, and other lively, low-tannin varieties are perfect for patio hangs, park picnics, and everything in between. They’re refreshing, food-friendly, and bursting with energy—just like summer should be.

At Base Camp, we've had a hard time keeping some of these gems in stock. Here are a few standouts that have been flying off our shelves:

  • Lucius Chillable Mourvèdre – A juicy, energetic take on a typically brooding varietal. Think fresh berries with a savory streak.

  • Domaine Lingot-Martin Bugey-Cerdon – Sparkling Gamay with wild strawberry vibes and a touch of sweetness. A summer brunch favorite.

  • Mollydooker Miss Molly Sparkling Shiraz – Bold, bubbly, and unapologetically fun. This one’s for your backyard BBQs.

  • Gonc Winery 'Sabotage' Blaufränkisch – Spicy, crunchy, and perfectly weird in the best way. Chill it and watch it sing.

  • Claré J.C. Langhe Nebbiolo – A playful, early-release Nebbiolo that drinks like a cross between a rosé and a red. Complex and gulpable.

  • Aupa Pipeño (Pais/Carignan blend) – Chilean field blend magic. Earthy, vibrant, and ridiculously drinkable.

  • Loop de Loop 'Borderline' Red – Gorge-grown and packed with character. An easy, chill-worthy blend for summer nights.

  • Domaine d'Ansignan 'Les Grenadines' – One of our new obsessions. Grenache from the Côtes Catalanes, full of red fruit and wild herbs.

So how cold should you go? Aim for about 55°F—cooler than room temp but not quite fridge cold. About 30 minutes in the fridge (or 10 minutes in an ice bucket) should do the trick.

Next time you’re reaching for something refreshing, skip the rosé and go rogue with a chillable red. Your summer glass will thank you.
