The 2022 Ricossa Gavi is an elegant expression of Piedmont's terroir, crafted from 100% Cortese grapes. I found this wine shows a lovely pale straw yellow in the glass. On the nose, there's a fresh, fruity bouquet complemented by delicate white flower aromas.
The winemaking really shines through in the glass - the team at Ricossa has done a masterful job with temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel, followed by a brief bottle aging that adds just the right amount of structure while preserving the wine's natural characteristics.
What's fascinating about this wine is its origin - it comes from the rolling hills between Alessandria and Asti, stretching toward the Ligurian Apennines. The unique soil composition of limestone, clay, tuff, and siliceous stones gives this Gavi its distinct personality.
On the palate, I find it wonderfully balanced and harmonious, with a refreshing character that makes it incredibly food-friendly. In my experience, it pairs beautifully with light appetizers, fresh salads, and various fish dishes. I recommend serving it nicely chilled at 8-10°C to fully appreciate its fresh character.
