Winemaking Process | At Chehalem Winery, their winemaking philosophy is to reflect the pure expression of terroir with minimal processing. The 2022 vintage presented unique challenges, starting with a cold, wet spring and a late-season freeze. However, as temperatures warmed from mid-May, their estate vines flourished. They began harvesting on September 19, about four weeks later than recent vintages, and concluded on October 21 under favorable conditions.
The Pinot Noir grapes are carefully selected from vineyards across the Chehalem Mountains AVA, showcasing the diversity of the namesake region. After harvest, the wine is aged in 12% new French oak barrels and finished in stainless steel tanks. It is then blended and bottled Pinot Noir 10 months after the vintage, allowing the true character of the fruit to shine through.
Tasting Notes | Picture this: a glass filled with a wine of deep, rich color. As you bring it to your nose, you're greeted with an aromatically complex bouquet. Dark fruit notes of black cherries and blackberries mingle with subtle hints of mushrooms and tobacco, creating an intriguing and inviting scent.
Take a sip, and you'll find a bold, long-lasting flavor profile. The wine presents a medium body with a dusty tannin structure that gives it backbone and character. Beneath the tannins, there's a hint of cherry fruit that evolves beautifully, leading to a lingering, elegant finish. This wine strikes a perfect balance between power and finesse, offering a truly memorable tasting experience.
