VITICULTURE
Sourced from select vineyards in the Franschhoek Valley, known for its unique terroir influenced by surrounding mountains and diverse soils. Vines average 15-20 years of age, planted on decomposed granite and sandstone soils providing excellent drainage. Sustainable farming practices are employed with minimal intervention in the vineyard.
VINIFICATION
Hand-harvested grapes are sorted and destemmed before undergoing temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel tanks. Each varietal is fermented separately before blending. The wine spends 14-16 months in French oak barrels (30% new, 70% 2nd and 3rd fill) before final blending and bottling.
TASTING NOTES
Appearance: Deep ruby-garnet with purple highlights and good intensity.
Nose: Complex bouquet of dark cherry, blackcurrant, and plum, complemented by notes of cedar, tobacco, and subtle vanilla from oak aging. A hint of fynbos herbs and spice adds a distinctive South African character.
Palate: Full-bodied with firm yet elegant tannins providing excellent structure. Rich flavors of blackberry, cassis, and dark chocolate are balanced by refreshing acidity. Secondary notes of espresso, clove, and leather create complexity, while the finish is long and satisfying with lingering dark fruit and spice.
FOOD PAIRING
Pairs exceptionally well with grilled meats, especially lamb and game. Excellent with hearty beef dishes, rich stews, or aged hard cheeses. For vegetarian options, try with mushroom-based dishes or grilled eggplant.
