Shaya Verdejo is a distinctive white wine from the Rueda region produced by Bodegas Shaya. This Spanish wine is made from 100% Verdejo grapes harvested from low-yielding, 70-year-old vineyards near Segovia, grown in sandy-clayey soils under organic farming practices.

Winemaking Process | After careful harvesting, 80% of the wine is fermented in stainless steel tanks while 20% ferments in French oak barrels. The wine ages for 4-6 months, with portions remaining in contact with the lees before blending and bottling. The production is overseen by respected Australian winemaker Belinda Thomson as part of the Bodegas Juan Gil Family collection.

Tasting Notes

  • Appearance: Medium straw color with greenish tinges
  • Nose: Moderate aromas of exotic fruits (pineapple, mango, passion fruit), fresh citrus, ripe banana, complemented by vegetal notes of freshly cut grass, hay, and subtle mineral nuances
  • Palate: Broad and serious with vibrant acidity, this wine offers a smooth, palate-coating texture. The fruit-forward profile is balanced by remarkable freshness leading to a long, dry finish where its distinctive minerality stands out alongside subtle bitter notes that add complexity

Style: Young, light-bodied, aromatic white wine with minimal oak influence

This well-crafted white showcases the true character of old-vine Verdejo from Rueda, distinguishing itself from other wines of the same varietal with its depth and mineral complexity.
