Loire Valley Cabernet Franc from a family that has been making wine in Bourgueil since 1839. Bright, savory and food-friendly, exactly the kind of red that makes a fall dinner.
Taste
Medium-bodied with vivid acidity, full of pomegranate and tart red cherry, with a hint of red bell pepper, white pepper and an earthy, forest-floor edge. The tannins are fine and the finish stays fresh.
About the Winery/Winemaker
The Audebert family have been vignerons, father to son, since 1839. Today they farm more than 40 hectares across Bourgueil, Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil and Chinon, with a troglodyte cellar at Le Grand Clos. Their classic Bourgueil comes from about 10 hectares of vines in the communes of Bourgueil and Benais, on the mid-slope of the côte and the high terrace, facing south and southwest on sand, clay-limestone and clay-silica soils.
Why We Love It
Loire Cabernet Franc is one of France's great food reds and still one of its best-kept secrets. This one is lively enough to serve with a light chill, with the savory depth for roast pork, mushrooms, duck or a charcuterie board. Our wine club members already know it well.
