Taste
A lifted nose of yellow plum, white peach and crushed stone, with a gentle frame of spice from the oak. The palate is balanced and accessible, generous without being heavy, and held together by a thread of minerality and fresh acidity through a long finish.
About the Winery/Winemaker
Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard grew out of the 1982 marriage of Richard Fontaine and Laurence Gagnard, whose family holdings in Chassagne-Montrachet go back generations. Céline Fontaine has made the wines since 2007, joined by her partner Fred Robert, who worked at Domaine Armand Rousseau from 2006 to 2017. Beyond this village wine, the domaine owns a clutch of Chassagne premier crus and small parcels of Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet and Le Montrachet itself.
Why We Love It
This is the white Burgundy to reach for when you want the real thing without paying premier cru prices. Pour it with roast chicken, lobster, scallops in brown butter or a soft washed-rind cheese, and give it a few minutes in the glass to open up.
