Overview

This exceptional wine is grown by small farmers in the Truquilemu section of Empedrado in Chile's Maule Valley. Crafted from 70+ year old Carignan vines with a dash of Syrah, this Gran Cru offering represents the pinnacle of traditional Chilean viticulture. Harvested from a section located along the creek with excellent drainage, resulting in naturally low yields and concentrated fruit expression.

Vineyard & Production

Hand-farmed using ancestral dry-farming techniques by local ploughmen who have served as stewards of these vines since colonial times. The vineyard work is done entirely by hand and horse, maintaining traditional methods that respect both the land and the community. This wine is naturally fermented in small open-top tanks with manual cap management. Pressing is strictly done by hand, preserving the gentle extraction of flavors. The wine ages patiently in neutral barrels (three or more uses) over two winters, allowing for integration and complexity to develop.

Tasting Notes

Deep and complex, displaying spice and mineral-accented aromas of red and blue fruits with emerging violet and rhubarb notes. The palate is both concentrated and lithe, featuring energetic black raspberry, spice cake, and floral pastille flavors complemented by a refreshing hint of blood orange that adds vibrancy to the finish. The wine concludes with a smooth, sweet and persistent finish, where resonating floral and spice notes mingle with supple tannins that provide elegant structure and gentle grip.
