A lively and expressive Sauvignon Blanc from the Loire Valley, the 2023 Le Grand Ballon Touraine Blanc delivers floral elegance, zesty acidity, and unbeatable value in a crisp, food-friendly package.
Taste
Aromas of honeysuckle, white nectarine, grapefruit, and tropical fruits rise from the glass, with a delicate crushed stone minerality in the background. On the palate, it’s bright and juicy, showcasing flavors of citrus, melon, and peach. The texture is lean yet layered, with a fresh, medium-bodied feel and a long, crisp finish marked by floral lift and a touch of salinity.
About the Winery/Winemaker
Produced by the fifth-generation family estate Domaine Joel & Thierry Delaunay, Le Grand Ballon takes its name from the hot air balloons that float above the Loire Valley’s scenic vineyards. Grapes for this cuvée come from both estate plots and trusted local growers in Touraine, where flint, clay, and limestone soils add vibrancy and depth. Sustainable farming, gentle pressing, and lees aging (3–6 months) all contribute to the wine’s expressive and balanced character.
Why We Love It
This is classic Loire Valley Sauvignon Blanc—fresh, floral, and mineral-driven—delivering serious flavor at an approachable price. Its versatility makes it a dream with goat cheese, oysters, or light poultry dishes. Whether for weeknight sipping or entertaining guests, it punches well above its weight.
