A bold, elegant Bordeaux-style red blend from Red Mountain, showcasing Merlot’s plush fruit with Cabernet Sauvignon’s structure. Upchurch Vineyard’s Counterpart Merlot is rich, layered, and impeccably balanced.

Taste
Lush blackberry, black plum, and ripe cherry are woven with notes of cocoa, cedar, and subtle graphite. Medium to full-bodied with velvety tannins and bright acidity, it finishes long with a touch of dark chocolate and spice.

About the Winery/Winemaker
Founded by Chris Upchurch—who brought his Bordeaux-style winemaking experience to Washington—Upchurch Vineyard is situated at Red Mountain’s southern tip. The estate, farmed sustainably with European “small vine” techniques by Dick Boushey, combines powerhouse site fruit with refined winemaking. Counterpart is their flagship Bordeaux‑style blend, highlighting Merlot sourced from their estate and neighboring vineyards, crafted in 100% new French oak barrels.

Why We Love It
Counterpart is a stellar representation of what Washington can do with Merlot in a thoughtful blend. It has depth and complexity, yet remains poised and approachable. It’s equally at home with a steak dinner or sipping slowly by the fire—pure versatility.
