Discover one of Italy's most delightful indigenous varieties with Vigna Madre Kriya Pecorino, an exquisite organic white wine from the rolling hills of Abruzzo. Made by the pioneering Di Carlo family—Italy's first certified organic winemakers—this refreshing Pecorino showcases the grape's distinctive character and the unique terroir of Terre di Chieti.

Tasting Notes

Appearance: Brilliant straw yellow with pale green reflections.

Nose: Vibrant and aromatic with enticing notes of nectarine, ripe pear, and delicate citrus, beautifully complemented by intriguing mineral nuances of peat and flint. Refined layers of aromatic herbs add complexity, while subtle hints of blueberry, black licorice, and fresh violet flowers create unexpected depth.

Palate: Crisp and lively with excellent structure and balance. The palate reflects the nose with fresh stone fruit and pear flavors underpinned by a distinctive minerality. The finish is clean, persistent, and refreshingly dry.

Behind the Wine

The Pecorino grape shares more than just a name with the famous Italian cheese—it shares a fascinating history. One origin story traces the name to the "transumanza," when shepherds would lead their flocks from the Abruzzo mountains to Puglia each September. The early-ripening Pecorino grapes would tempt hungry sheep ("pecora" in Italian) along the route, and legend has it that shepherds would compensate vineyard owners with wedges of Pecorino cheese for the grapes their animals consumed.

This ancient variety nearly disappeared but has experienced a remarkable resurgence since the 1990s, championed by dedicated producers like Vigna Madre who recognize its exceptional qualities and aging potential.

Perfect Pairings

This versatile white wine shines alongside seafood appetizers, delicate hors d'oeuvres, and light pasta dishes. For a classic regional pairing, enjoy with fresh Pecorino cheese—creating a delightful "Pecorino con Pecorino" experience. Also excellent with herb-infused dishes, grilled fish, and as a sophisticated aperitif.
