Tasting Notes This wine is elegant and well-balanced, with good structure and aromatic complexity. It offers light hints of raisins, sophisticated notes of vanilla, black pepper, cloves and cinnamon. The palate presents dried black cherry, curranty fruit with smoky and spicy notes that add complexity. It has a long, velvety finish with well-integrated, soft tannins.

Winemaking Notes The Palazzo Della Torre is made using the appassimento method. 70% of the grapes are fermented in September (following a normal red wine fermentation with destemming), while the remaining 30% undergoes a gentle drying process. These dried grapes are vinified in December and then the two resulting wines are blended before aging for a minimum of 15 months in barriques.

Food Pairing Suggestions Palazzo della Torre easily pairs with various Italian dishes, including:

  • Risottos, especially those flavored with saffron, porcini mushrooms and pork
  • Classic pasta dishes with Amatriciana and Carbonara sauces
  • Baked lasagna
  • Gnocchi with gorgonzola cheese and walnuts
  • Grilled meats and roasts
  • Parma ham and fine-cured Zibello pork loin
  • Medium-matured cheeses, especially Parmigiano Reggiano, pecorino and Monte Veronese

Critical Acclaim

  • James Suckling (93 Points): "A solid core of curranty fruit with smoky and spicy notes that add complexity. Full-bodied with good balance of smoky fruit and well-integrated, velvety tannins. Drive and length to this. Nicely done. Delicious now, or hold."
  • Wine Enthusiast (90 Points): "This blend of Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella and Sangiovese opens with aromas of black-skinned berries, graphite and underbrush. The savory palate offers dried black cherry, vanilla and licorice alongside polished tannins."
  • Vinous (90 Points): "The 2018 Palazzo della Torre comes to life in the glass with a vibrant mix of balsam herbs, black cherries and cloves. It's cool-toned in feel, yet silky and stacked with dark fruits and exotic spices. A tantalizing mix of zesty acids and minerals keeps the energy high, as the 2018 tapers off potent yet completely balanced and fresh. The Palazzo della Torre is fantastic, especially at this price point."
