Surrau Sciaia Vermentino Gallura Superiore DOCG 2022
Tasting Profile
Brilliant straw yellow with greenish reflections, this premium Sardinian Vermentino presents an intense bouquet of white peach, Mediterranean herbs, and citrus blossom intertwined with notes of sage, almond, and distinctive saline minerality. The palate offers refined flavors of ripe pear, yellow apple, and Meyer lemon complemented by nuances of wildflowers, fresh fennel, and a touch of salinity. Medium-bodied with remarkable depth and textural richness balanced by vibrant acidity, culminating in a long, mineral-driven finish with lingering notes of stone fruit, herbs, and a distinctive saline touch characteristic of Gallura terroir.
Winemaker Notes
Crafted by Vigne Surrau in the prestigious Gallura region of northeastern Sardinia, Sciaia represents the pinnacle of Vermentino production. The grapes are hand-harvested from low-yielding vines planted on decomposed granite soils rich in minerals, which impart the wine's distinctive complexity and saline character. Following gentle pressing, the wine undergoes temperature-controlled fermentation and brief aging on fine lees in stainless steel tanks, enhancing textural richness while preserving varietal purity and freshness.
Vintage Notes
The 2022 vintage in Gallura offered ideal conditions for Vermentino, with warm, sunny days balanced by cooling Mediterranean breezes and moderate temperatures during the ripening period. This created perfect balance between fruit concentration, aromatic development, and crucial acidity, resulting in wines with exceptional complexity, freshness, and mineral intensity that beautifully express the region's unique terroir.
