Vietti Barbera d'Alba Tre Vie 2022
Tasting Profile
Deep ruby-purple with vibrant red reflections, this classic Piedmontese Barbera presents intense aromas of ripe black cherry, blackberry, and plum complemented by notes of violet, licorice, and subtle hints of vanilla and spice. The palate delivers concentrated flavors of dark berries, sour cherry, and red currant balanced by nuances of fresh herbs, tobacco, and a touch of graphite. Medium to full-bodied with Barbera's characteristic bright acidity providing remarkable freshness despite its concentration, supported by refined tannins that add structure without astringency, culminating in a long, balanced finish with lingering notes of dark fruit and a pleasant savory undertone.
Winemaker Notes
Crafted by the prestigious Vietti family, pioneers in single-vineyard Barbera production, Tre Vie represents a harmonious blend from select sites across the Alba region. The grapes are carefully harvested from vineyards situated on the region's distinctive calcareous-clay soils, which provide ideal growing conditions for developing Barbera's unique combination of concentration and freshness. Following temperature-controlled fermentation, the wine ages in a combination of stainless steel, large oak casks, and smaller French oak barrels for 12-14 months, achieving complexity while maintaining varietal purity.
Vintage Notes
The 2022 vintage in Piedmont benefited from balanced growing conditions with warm days and cool nights during the crucial ripening period. This diurnal temperature variation contributed to excellent phenolic development while preserving Barbera's crucial acidity, resulting in wines with remarkable freshness, aromatic intensity, and structural balance that beautifully express the region's terroir.
